PC or Laptop - A laptop does not require a desk with too many slots. A simple flat top desk is sufficient for the purpose. However a desktop computer requires proper slots in the desk to accommodate all the computer parts. Make sure the desk can accommodate additional computer accessories like printer. Less space is needed for an all-in-one printer but more space is needed if the printer and scanner are two separate units. If you use a landline phone or fax machine then the desk should have the space or slot for such a device.
Self Assembled L shaped Computer Desk - Made by companies like Sauder these desks are the ones you find in big box retail stores as well as major office supply retail outlets. These desks are fairly easy to assemble but can be flimsy. They are often made from particle board fiber board or other wood product materials rather than solid natural wood. They are very economical and fit well in most small corners. For a little extra (but less than $150) Techni Mobili has some very stylish alternatives.
Desk and Bench: Sometimes used to describe a school desk which has a built-in seat. It is also called a "Desk and stool". Desk on a Chest: An antique portable desk made up of two chests: the bottom one usually has drawers and the top one has a hinged desk surface. Desk on a Frame: An antique form made up of two pieces of furniture: a fairly large and closable portable desk and a stand made of it out of the same material and in the same style.
Desk and Table Combinations: As mentioned above there are circumstances where more work space (or meeting space) is required. In this instance a combination of desk and writing or library table could be appropriate (or boardroom type table).
Bush Furniture - This is a definite step up in both quality and price. Bush furniture sells everything from home office furniture to computer workstations for large offices. Their L shaped computer desk collection features everything from standard L shaped desks to bow front desks and large multi-desk corner suites.
Corner or Free Design - A corner desk is placed in the corner. Generally it is not placed in the middle of the room. The free design is the simple rectangle desk that you can place anywhere you wish. It gives you more flexibility. In future if you want to rearrange furniture and belongings in the room then you can place such a desk at a different place. The corner desk can be L-shaped or I-shaped design. If you choose a corner desk then it should have sufficient width. It is difficult to spread your legs further if a corner desk has a small width. It can put strain on your legs and body if occasionally you cannot stretch your feet in front on the floor.
